Welcome to the 32nd Episode of The Two Tankers And A Cat Podcast! Even before the Second World War, the famous German tank commander, Heinz Guderian, had predicted the need for highly mobile self-propelled anti-tank vehicles, later known as Panzerjäger or Jagdpanzer. Joseph R. Byrle is thought to be the only American soldier to have served with both the United States Army and the Soviet Red Army in World War II. He took part in Mission Albany, the airborne landings of the 101st Airborne Division on June 5-6, 1944, as a member of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He was captured by the Germans and sent east as a prisoner of war. After several unsuccessful attempts, Beyrle escaped from the German Stalag III-C in January 1945 and joined a Soviet tank battalion under the command of Aleksandra Samusenko. Welcome to the 31st Episode of The Two Tankers and a Cat Podcast! In this episode we talk about the Durchbruchswagen 2 and the Krupp family during World War II! The DW2 tank (Durchbruchswagen 2) was a prototype German battle tank developed by the firm Henschel & Sohn at the request of the Reich government, during the Second World War. Considered a heavy tank because of its mass, it was designed to fit into the category of breakthrough tanks at a time when Hitler was seeking to equip his troops with a heavy tank weighing between 30 and 35 tons. Welcome to Episode #30 of The Two Tankers and A Cat Podcast! In this episode we talk about the Soviet Union KV-2 and how German armor had issues in taking them out in World War II. The KV-2 was a beast of a tank, that was made from a lot of steel! Its only drawback was being slow, but we cover its success in World War II. We also talk about the Battle of Raseiniai where a single KV-2 got behind the German lines and caused some havoc! Welcome to the 29th Episode of The Two Tankers and A Cat Podcast. We discuss the Soviet Union's need for an amphibious light tank during World War II. They designed the T-38, which you will find out during this podcast, didn't pan out very well. It did however lead to the development of the Soviet Union T-40, which was a more successful tank. The T-38 was involved in the Dnieper River crossing during World War II. As always, Charlie and I really enjoy talking about tanks, and this episode will not disappoint. Welcome to the 28th Episode of The Two Tankers and A Cat Podcast! In this episode we talk about the Marmon-Herrington MTLS-1G14 tank that went into production during World War II. The MTLS-1G14 tank had dual main guns, and it showed up a little too late to the fight to be a productive piece of armor in World War II. We also talk a bit about the United State's lend lease program during World War II, and how that program benefited many of our allies during that war. EPISODE #25 - HOW HELPFUL WAS THE TESTING OF THE M6A2E1 EXPERIMENTAL TANK?
Tuesday Sep 17, 2019
Tuesday Sep 17, 2019
While the M6A2E1's design was rejected for use in combat, it was still important to the development of the T29 tank. Due to the use of existing unused T1E1s for a hull, they were able to have a tank ready that could test design choices for the upcoming T29 tank. When the tank was finished with turret design, it would find usage testing out the T5 105mm gun as well as gun mounting aspects with lessons learned from this being implemented in the T29 program. Remember you can always contact us with your questions, concerns or suggestions for future shows. Until next time, happy tanking and have a great week!

Welcome to the 24th Episode of The Two Tankers and A Cat Podcast! In this episode we talk about the M7 Priest Self Propelled Gun (SPG). We also talk about how a listener of the podcast from New Zealand brought to our attention the Bob Semple tank and how it is a taller tank than the M3 Lee. Up until this episode, we always talked about how the M3 Lee was the tallest tank we had covered in the podcast. Check out this episode to see just how much taller the Bob Semple tank actually was! Until next time happy tanking and have a great day! Charley and Russel
